What’s the difference between a farm stand and a farmers market?
A farm stand sits on the farm itself and sells only what that farm grows, usually with longer hours across the week. A farmers market gathers many vendors in one place once or twice a week. Stands are the better bet for same-day-picked produce; markets win on one-stop variety.
When are farm stands open in MA?
Most MA stands open between mid-May and Memorial Day and run through October, with some staying open later for fall crops like winter squash and pumpkins. Hours vary by farm — check the farm’s page for its pickup windows.
Can I use SNAP/EBT at farm stands?
Many farms accept SNAP/EBT, and LiveStalks Local welcomes SNAP shoppers across the platform. Check the individual farm’s page to confirm what they accept.
Is farm stand produce more expensive than the grocery store?
Sometimes modestly, sometimes not at all — and in peak season, in-season items are often cheaper than supermarket equivalents. You’re also getting produce that was picked the same day instead of shipped roughly 1,500 miles, and around 67¢ of every dollar stays in the local economy.
